There is a lot of emphasis on comparing your Electricity and Gas and ensure you’re not paying too much for your services. While this is great what does it mean for me? Money back offers, discounts, pay on time discounts, % off during off peak hours… I’m so confused.
It’s understandable that people get confused with all the marketing ploys used by companies to make sales. At Ask Donald we have put together this frequently asked questions guide (FAQ) to help you work through all the marketing and sales tactics so you can find the best electricity and gas plan for you.
What is a pay on time discount? Some companies offer a pay on time discount to customers that will pay their bill on time. The bill will have 3 totals in the summary on the front page the total bill before discounts, the discount (e.g. 7% pay on time discount) and the discount earned if you pay on time. The bill will also have a 4th heading- previous discount earned (this is the discount applied to the bill from the previous month if 1 was earned).
You need to read the total amount due and the date this amount is due by to receive the pay on time discount. This will reflect on the bill for the following month. Be careful though this discount is not applied if you pay your bill even 1 day past the due date on the bill. This can often be costly for consumers as the rate may be higher to compensate for the discounts the company will be paying to other customers. This plan is not recommended for people that live week to week and often find it hard to pay their bills on time.
How do I compare my electricity plan? Ask Donald has a really easy to use comparison tool that allows to you to compare your electricity and gas plans online. Our comparison is 100% online and you will not receive any annoying sales calls. The tool is easy to use and is complete in 5 steps taking less than 5 minutes to complete. It makes it easier if you have a recent bill handy.
Will I lose power if I switch energy provider? The answer is no, you won’t lose power. Ask Donald only does power switches so this means that your provider changes at the same time as your account closes from your previous provider, this means you will not be without electricity or gas when you switch.
How do I read the details of the plan I am looking at switching too? Once a plan has been recommended from your search you can read the details from the “View plan” button. Here you can see the price per KWh, discount and any other important information you need to know before you click “Apply Now”

Comparing and switching your electricity and gas services is made easy and here at Ask Donald want to help you expel the myth that it is hard to switch. You should compare your plan every 12 months to ensure you are not paying too much for a service you may not need. Just check that you are not locked into a contract before you switch as you may open your last bill with a large payout figure attached.
